Product description

If you have come across our site, it is surely because you have heard about our old leather rugby ball!! It is by far our best seller with its unusual honey havana brown patina and above all its vegetable tanning which covers up a few manufacturing secrets ensuring an unbeatable character on the market. Appreciate the veins of the leather on each photo, this piece ensures you an exclusive decoration, well above what can be found on the Internet. Indeed, when some online shops sell a rugby ball for more than 90€ (95€ at Markus de Mauriac for “made in the other end of the world” and up to 165€ at Eden park), we continue to offer it for less than 50€ directly from the workshop in England. We sometimes act against all odds, especially with the British currency which doesn’t always help us (we’re not even talking about the Brexit which puts us in vibrating mode) and some unscrupulous competitors who sell (often*) poor quality products from India or Pakistan. As we explain on our website, we don’t have a shop or employees to pay as we work ourselves in a small structure, so let’s be honest, from our garage, avoiding a maximum of intermediaries. To come back to what interests you, with this old leather rugby ball, you will really appreciate the choice of this antique light coloured patina which sometimes tends towards havana brown / camel and also sometimes towards honey colour giving it all its cachet. The colour always varies a little according to the dosage of our patinas. We have tried to show you several photos of the old rugby balls taken in different light conditions. Made by hand, these vintage leather rugby balls require a real know-how. They were once used to play rugby but today they are mainly used for decoration. The method of manufacture has not changed, they are still handmade in a small workshop and use vegetable tanned leather as opposed to the quicker and cheaper chemical tanning used by the major leather sellers. By bringing out the character of the leather, each piece becomes unique! Moreover, you will find several “trademarks” on these stamps such as “Handcrafted since 1924-Designed in France-Vegetable tan leather by Ben @ Flo” or “Epic Sport Outfitters London…” or “Guball Sports London England All leather Handsewn since 1966” On some pieces, the stamp is very discreet or even invisible, while on others, it is very marked. Do not hesitate to tell us what you want when you order, we will do our best to find the rugby ball that suits you ;-). This ball is an ideal object for a vintage decoration in a bar, a restaurant, a hotel, a gite or simply for your home. It goes perfectly with a leather sofa, a wooden piece of furniture, or any other piece of noble material. An original gift idea for Father’s Day or a birthday for example. This gift is sure to please rugby fans. For details of our arrivals, including limited editions, and to see more photos of the product you will receive, follow the news feed on our Facebook page or on Instagram. * we don’t want to generalise, some of the shops we work with, such as John Woodbridge, do an excellent job and offer a similar range of products, even if some of them are reissues (cricket balls for example, which we continue to bargain-hunt for).
